A rowdy element, K. Pandi alias “Muttaikan” Pandi (21), was found dead with his body bearing several stab and cut injuries at Theerthakaadu near here on Monday morning.

Police suspect that an in-fighting among his associates had led to the brutal murder on Sunday night.

The police said one N. Ayyanar had complained late in the night to Karuppayoorani police that a gang had attacked him with lethal weapons at Theerthakaddu near Vandiyur at around 9 p.m.

However, the police who went in search of the accused could not find anyone in the night amidst the rubble where scores of huts had been demolished by the authorities recently for encroachments. Ayyanar was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital, the police added.

However, the police found the body of Pandi behind one of the huts early in the morning.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena and Inspector of Police S. Vadivel Murugan conducted enquiry at the scene of crime.

The police are on the lookout for a few suspects with whom Pandi had previous enmity.

The police said Pandi was accused in a murder case in Anna Nagar police station limits, three hurt cases and one attempt-to-murder case in Karuppayoorani. The body was cremated later in the day after a post-mortem was conducted at the GRH.
