After The American College, it is now the turn of Yadava College in the city to join the list of educational institutions that have got embroiled in controversies, across the State, following factional disputes between the management committee members.
Events at the 44-year-old Yadava College took an ugly turn on Thursday when 117 teaching and 13 non-teaching staff under self financing stream boycotted work demanding payment of monthly salary due since February this year and a group of students blocked the main road in front of the institution.
Protesting in support of the staff, the students urged the State Government to intervene into the issue and find an amicable solution so that they could pursue their education without any hindrance. They dispersed only after the police and revenue officials assured them of necessary action.
Later in the day, Collector Anshul Mishra called for a meeting with the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education (RJDCE), college principal T. Rathnakumar and representatives of Valam, the college’s teaching and non-teaching association, to discuss the issue.
G. Rajkumar, vice-president of Valam, said that the dispute between the management committee members had been going on for long. Hence, the RJDCE began disbursing salary directly to the staff of government aided stream as well as self financing stream since February 2012.
However, while disposing of a batch of 12 writ petitions filed by the management committee members, the Madras High Court Bench here in March this year held that the RJDCE cannot have any control over the self-financing stream.
