Madurai Rural district police have rescued a 46-year-old man, Shanmuganathan of O. Kovilpatti near Melur, who was confined to a hotel in Malaysia under trying condition.

Superintendent of Police Vijayendra Bidari said that the police arrested the hotel owner, Saravanan, on June 17 when he came to his native place in Karaikudi.

Meanwhile, the police took efforts through the Indian Embassy and rescued the worker, who had painful wounds on his cracked feet due to lack of proper medical care.

The District Crime Branch had registered a case of cheating, using abusive language and criminal intimidation against Saravanan, his wife, and his brother Ilangeswaran.

Ilangeswaran was running a chain of eateries in Malaysia for which they employed around 200 persons from Tamil Nadu.

While Shanmuganathan was taken to Malaysia in February 2013 on a three-year work permit on taking Rs. 60,000, the employers refused to send him back even after his permit expired, despite repeated requests.

Meanwhile, the employers also renewed his work permit, DCB Inspector S. Muthupandi said.

After he sent photographs of his wounds to his wife Chithra, she lodged a complaint with the district police.
