The construction of high-level bridges at Aruldosspuram and Thirumalairayar Padithurai will be finished within the next one year, Minister for Cooperation ‘Sellur’ K. Raju said here on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing construction works.
The two causeways at Aruldosspuram and Thirumalairayar Padithurai are being pulled down to make way for two high-level bridges which will connect the north and southern parts of the city in a bid to ease traffic congestion.
The high-level bridge at Aruldosspuram connecting the E.S.I. Hospital Junction to the Aarapalayam junction will be constructed at a cost of Rs 18 crores at a length of 324 metres and width of 7.50 metres.
The bridge at Thirumalairayar Padithurai connecting Goripalayam Junction to Simmakkal Junction will be constructed at a cost of Rs 12.40 crore at a length of 186 metres and width of 7.50 metres. Both the bridges will have pedestrian pavements at a width of 2.25 metres on either side.
With regard to traffic arrangements owing to the ongoing construction works, officials said that It had been proposed to divert traffic to two causeways near the Sri Meenakshi Government College for Women leading to Yanaikkal and the causeway near the LIC of India, Divisional office.
“Works on conversion of the Inner Ring Road from Uthangudi to Kappalur into a four-way lane will also begin soon and the construction of flyovers at Kalavasal and Goripalayam is also expected to begin shortly,” the Minister said.
