Women allege deficiency in treatment at GRH

An aged mother and her daughter from Mastanpatti village petitioned the Collector’s office on Monday alleging denial of proper treatment at Government Rajaji Hospital following cataract surgery the two underwent at the hospital in the first week of May.

P. Seeniammal, aged around 70, and her daughter M. Muniammal, daily wage earners, alleged that their eye sight had worsened after the surgery. While Muniammal underwent surgery in her right eye, Seeniammal had the surgery in her left eye. “We were hospitalised for nearly two weeks. Later, we had to visit the hospital many times as there was irritation and pain in the eyes,” Muniammal said.

“The doctors do not meet us. The nurses give us some eye drops. But it doesn’t help,” she added. Seeniammal said that the two could not go to work due to poor eyesight and they had no one to support. When contacted, a senior official from GRH said that the issue had not been brought to his notice. “Post-operative infections do happen in some cataract surgeries. We will ensure proper treatment,” he said.
