A quarrel between a drunk auto driver, R. Kannan (34) with his wife, led to the man fatally assaulting her at Keeraithurai on Thursday.
Police said that Kannan had picked up a wordy quarrel with his wife, Sivagnana Selvi (30), under the influence of liquor at his house in Appavu Nadar lane in Keeraithurai.
Suddenly, he picked up a wooden log and hit the mother of two children on her head. On seeing her bleeding, he fled from the spot. The woman who managed to come out of her house, later collapsed and died.
The Keeraithurai police are on the lookout for the accused.
