A car, reportedly driven by a 15-year-old boy, fatally knocked down a 41-year-old woman and left another woman injured in KK Nagar here on Sunday.

The women were in search of a tea shop on KK Nagar Main Road around 7 a.m. when the speeding car hit them from behind. Leelavathi, wife of Thangaraj of Pudukottai, died on the spot and the other woman was rushed to the hospital.

Preliminary inquiries suggested that the boy was behind the wheels, but the boy’s grandfather, a doctor from K. Pudur, claimed he only drove the car.

Late in the evening, the injured woman claimed that she saw the boy on the driver seat. “I saw him stepping out of the driver door with some injuries on his forehead,” she had told the police.
