A 35-year-old woman employee of a real estate firm was found dead and one of the partners of the company, M. Selvakumar, battling for life in their office at Chinna Chokkikulam in the early hours of Monday.

The duo had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison after Selvakumar’s wife questioned their relationship, police said. Selvakumar’s wife had alerted her brother, M. Ravi, after he did not return home late on Sunday night.

When Ravi went to the office in Sarojini Street, he found the door locked from within and there was no response when he knocked the door. Selvakumar and the woman employee were found lying in the bathroom after the office was broken open early next morning.

The condition of Selvakumar, who was admitted to a private hospital, continued to be critical, the officer added.
