The Usilampatti Town police have registered a murder case against one N. Jeyachandran of Parasurampatti following the death of a 43-year-old woman on Thursday evening.

The police said that the woman appeared to have died of a head injury due to an accidental fall from the two-wheeler while riding along with Jeyachandran. However, the woman’s husband, A. Ochukalai, lodged a complaint that his wife was murdered by Jeyachandran.

The man had taken Rs. 5 lakh from his wife and hence murdered her, he said in the complaint.

The woman, who was living in Karnataka, had returned to Usilampatti on January 18, to take care of her pregnant daughter, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Usilampatti), K. Saravana Kumar, said.

The police can conclude on the nature of death only after conducting an investigation. The police are awaiting post-mortem report, he said.

The accused was absconding, he added.
