An old woman, N. Azhagammal (80), and her daughter, S. Selvarani (48), were found dead at their farm house near Samayanallur on Thursday.
The highly decomposed bodies of the duo were found inside their house along the Madurai-Dindigul highway. Police said that Selvarani's elder sister, Mallaiga, had made futile attempts from Theni to call them over phone. Since they did not respond, she had asked Selvarani's neighbour to visit them.
After foul odour reeked out of the house, the door was broken open. The police suspect that it could be a case of murder for gain.
