Widow murdered

August 13, 2012 01:00 pm | Updated 01:00 pm IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Unidentified persons have murdered a widow in her house and stole her golden ornaments worth about Rs. 1.25 lakh.

Police said S. Petchiammal (48) of Sivanthipatti was living alone after her husband Sudalaimuthu died a few years ago. When her sister Parvathi, who was also living at Sivanthipatti, came to Petchiammal’ s house on Friday morning, she found that her sister had been murdered. As Petchiammal’s gold chain was found missing, police suspect that it was a case of ‘murder for gain.’

Though the sniffer dog was pressed into service, the police could not get any vital clue. However, the law-enforcers suspect that the victim’s relatives, who stayed in the house a few days ago, might have orchestrated this crime for stealing the gold chain. Sivanthipatti police have registered a case.
