As many as 1,209 beneficiaries were provided with gold coins worth ₹1.28 crore under the State government's 'gold for thaali' scheme at a programme organised here on Sunday.
Minister for Adi Dravida Welfare V.M. Rajalakshmi inaugurated the programme and extended the benefits in the presence of Collector M. Karunakaran.
Besides, financial assistance of ₹1.77 crore to a total of 354 graduates and ₹2.13 crore to 855 non-graduates was given to them through the Department of Social Welfare.
Under the marriage assistance scheme, funds of ₹45.17 crore to a total of 11,517 graduates and ₹65.80 crore to 21,271 non-graduates had been provided over the last six years in the district.
Besides, gold coins to the value of ₹34.75 crore were also given to beneficiaries.
A total of 32, 788 beneficiaries had been provided with welfare measures to the tune of ₹145.72 crore since 2011. District Social Welfare Officer V. Umadevi welcomed, a statement said.
