The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK)’s rebel Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) R. Sundarrajan, representing Madurai Central constituency, on Monday urged the traders to vote in favour of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Addressing a meet organised by Tamil Nadu Food Grains Merchants Association (TNFGMA) and Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) on labour laws, he urged them to elevate its leader Jayalalithaa from the post of Chief Minister of the State to the Prime Minister of the country.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA R. Annadurai also asked the traders to campaign for the AIADMK in the ensuing Parliamentary elections. He blamed the Congress for presenting anti-trader Bills in Parliament in the last 10 years and the Bharatiya Janata Party for supporting them. “The DMK, which was very much part of the Centre until recently, had been a mute spectator to such atrocities. So, you have the responsibility to elect a new government. Two more months are there (for the elections). Begin spreading word right now,” he said.

Virtually converting the traders’ meet into a political platform, Cooperation Minister ‘Sellur’ K. Raju too joined them by urging the traders to take the right decision during elections. When representatives of the trade bodies complained of draconian provisions in some Central laws, AIADMK MLA A.K. Bose, representing Madurai North constituency, said their grievances would be sorted out if Jayalalithaa was voted to power in the Centre.
