Hitting out at Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for being selective in acting against the corrupt, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president Vijayakant alleged on Wednesday that she was selective in arresting those who were plundering natural wealth through granite business and beach sand mining.
He questioned why no action was taken against Vaikundarajan in Tuticorin where large-scale illegal mining was taking place.
“When P.R. Palanisamy of PRP Granite was arrested in Madurai, why was no action taken against top officials involved? The same action should have been taken against Mr. Vaikundarajan who is indulging in illegal sand mining in Tuticorin,” he said. Addressing a campaign meeting at Melur near here, seeking votes for party candidate D. Sivamuthukumar, he said the illegal granite business in Madurai came to light because of the then Collector, U. Sagayam. “In Tuticorin, people are afraid that the sand mining will lead to tsunami. But everything is going on, and there is silence from the ruling party.”
Urging voters to make Narendra Modi Prime Minister, he said the DMDK would ensure that the needs of Tamil Nadu were fulfilled, especially in electricity, water and agriculture. Criticising both the AIADMK and the DMK for neglecting the State, Mr. Vijayakant said law and order had worsened under Ms. Jayalalithaa’s rule
“The late Chief Minister Kamaraj and the late Kakkan were born poor, lived poor and died poor. But, see the case of some of our present leaders who were born very poor and have become very rich,” he pointed out.
He said Madurai MP M.K.Alagiri and Melur MLA R. Samy failed to do anything for the people. He addressed two meetings in Madurai.
