Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan staged a demonstration here on Monday, protesting against the killing of former Vembattur village president Murugan and demanding the district police take speedy action and bring to book all those involved in the murder.

Addressing the protest after distributing relief of ₹. one lakh to the family of the deceased, a dalit, Mr. Thirumavalavan urged the district police to detain the accused involved in the murder under the National Security Act.

He also urged the government to provide adequate compensation to the family and a government job to one of the family members. Murugan was done to death on April 10 by a gang, allegedly due to previous enmity. Police have so far arrested five accused in connection with the case.
