VAO’s family complains against Melur tahsildar

August 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - MADURAI:

The family of M. Mohan, the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of Karuthapuliampatti in Melur taluk, have levelled allegations against Tahsildar of Melur for allegedly abetting the suicide attempt of the VAO.

Mr. Mohan, who reportedly consumed poison a few days before, is recuperating presently in a private hospital. In a petition submitted to the District Collector’s office on Monday, Mohan’s mother Seethalakshmi had alleged that he was being harassed by Tahsildar Krishnan.

She had alleged in her complaint that Mr. Mohan was asked by the Tahsildar to spend money out of his pocket on many occasions.

She had said that, when Mr. Mohan refused citing his financial situation, he was served a memo. A senior official from the district administration, however, denied allegations of harassment. The official claimed that the VAO was questioned for not discharging his duty properly and he was also reportedly facing some personal problems. The district administration has, however, assured the family that a detailed enquiry would be conducted.
