Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko has ruled out any alliance with the ruling AIADMK or the DMK in the State for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a meeting of party workers here on Saturday evening, Mr.Vaiko said the party would contest in a few seats without disclosing the party’s alliance partner.
“The MDMK will face the elections without compromising its basic principles and policies,” he said, adding the two major Dravidian parties had vote banks and money power and only if they were defeated, the MDMK could emerge on top. Defeating the two Dravidian parities was not something impossible, he said. Referring to demands that India should not attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Colombo, Mr.Vaiko said the MDMK never asked that India should boycott the meet, but had been demanding the expulsion of Sri Lanka from the Commonwealth.
“The CHOGM is expected to take place in Sri Lanka as scheduled and India might send its representative to attend it. However, the meeting would undermine the Commonwealth countries’ cherished ideals when it was held in Sri Lanka,” he said.
He appealed to the party workers to make the November 12 bandh called by the Tamil Nadu Traders’ Federation seeking the expulsion of Sri Lanka from the Commonwealth, a grand success.
Mr.Vaiko hit out at the ruling AIADMK for moving a court, seeking to pull down the Mullivaikal memorial erected near Thanjavur. The AIADMK was adopting a double stand on the issue for political gain, he alleged.
He also criticised the government for arresting Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam founder leader Kolathur Mani under the NSA.
