University pensioners observe fast

December 04, 2013 12:01 pm | Updated 01:24 pm IST - MADURAI:

Members of Madurai Kamaraj University Pensioners’ Association observed a fast on the university campus on Tuesday to express grievances, including “improper” deduction of income tax from their monthly pension. They also claimed that Form-16 had not been issued to many of them for the financial year 2012-13.

The pensioners also opposed the difference in the quantum of festival advance granted to them and to those in service. Further, they wanted the medical insurance scheme to be started immediately without being placed before the university’s finance committee for its approval. They claimed that the syndicate’s approval was sufficient as the scheme was to be implemented with pensioner’s contributions.
