A senior manager and an appraiser at the Indian Overseas Bank, Kalaiyar Koil branch were given two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the Central Bureau of Investigation Special Court in a trap case filed by the CBI.

The anti-corruption branch of CBI, Chennai, had registered a case based on a complaint that G.R. Nagarajan, senior manager in the bank had demanded a bribe of Rs.1 lakh from the complainant for sanctioning a loan of Rs.10 lakh. He wanted the bribe paid through A. Chandran, jewel appraiser of the Bank. A trap was laid by CBI and Chandran was caught red handed while accepting a part of the bribe. After a discreet probe, charge sheet was filed. A fine of Rs.75,000 was imposed on them by CBI Special Judge M.M. Krishnan.
