In yet another development two fresh complaints were registered by the Keelavalavu police against PRP Granite and Exports.

Madurai district police said in Madurai on Sunday that based on a complaint from PWD (water resources organisation) assistant engineer Sridharan, the Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan directed the police to register a case.

According to the complainant, PRP Granite and Exports partner Palanichamy and others had allegedly destroyed agricultural tanks covering different survey numbers in the Keelavalavu region to benefit their businesses.

The granite quarry workers had allegedly levelled the PWD tank with red sand and debris to store the granite stones mined from the adjacent quarries.

This had not only resulted in blocking waterways, but also prevented farmers from carrying out their farming activities. A total of Rs. 21 lakh has been estimated as loss to the government due to the encroachment.

Similarly, based on a complaint from the Muslim Jamaath leader, the police registered a case against the granite baron.

The complaint was that granite quarry operator Palanichamy had not only encroached into their land in Veppangudi tank, but had alleged forced them to part with the land for paltry sums. The complainant had claimed that the loss was around Rs. 50 lakh due to the encroachment and trespass into their properties falling under various survey numbers.

Cases under IPC Sections 447, 506 (1) and 3 (1) of TNPPDL Act was registered in Keelavalavu police station.
