In a case of hit-and-run, two persons, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed in a road accident when a speeding vehicle hit a two-wheeler at Thanakankulam near Tirunagar on Thursday.

Madurai Rural Police identified the deceased as Maya Darshini (7), daughter of Kanchi Thalaivan of Koothiyarkundu, and her uncle, Narasimha Pallavan (30), son of Mayandi. The names of the injured were given as Ricky Udra (a child admitted to a private hospital in Madurai), Neethi Malai Rajan and Venkatesh (admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital).

According to police, Narasimha Pallavan was riding the two-wheeler in which four others were travelling. He had picked up the children from a private school in Tirunagar and was going home at Koothiyarkundu. Maya Darshini was studying second standard.

On information, the ‘108' ambulance rushed to the spot and took the injured Ricky, Neethi Malai Rajan and Venkatesh to the hospitals. Traffic was paralysed on the highway for about 30 minutes. A hunt is on to secure the vehicle.
