Two killed in road accident near Virudhunagar

Two persons from Mettupalayam were killed in a road accident after the van in which they were travelling hit a median on Virudhunagar-Sattur highway here in the small hours of Wednesday.

The police identified the deceased as R. Venugopal (54), the driver and R. Sudarshan (32).

The van, carrying seven persons from Mettupalayam and Palladam, was proceeding towards Nagercoil for finding a match for Sudarshan, the police said.

Venugopal, who was behind the wheel, lost control of the speeding vehicle while it was crossing the Collectorate at Soolakkarai at around 2 a.m. 

The vehicle dashed against the median on the left side and fell to its right side.  The duo was killed on the spot.

Relatives of Sudarshan, N. Umarani (56) and R. Shanmugam (52), both from Palladam, were injured in the accident.  They were admitted to the Government Hospital here.

The Soolakkarai police are investigating.
