Citing building plan violations, Corporation officials sealed off two construction sites in a city-wide crackdown on Tuesday. The labour present at the sites were instructed to leave.

The Corporation team first visited a site at Thathaneri Main Road, Aruldosspuram, where a hospital had been planned. Against the plan approval for 7482.12 sq.ft. on each floor (ground, first, second and third floors), the builder had constructed 8,489.56 sq.ft. on each floor, taking the total carpet area to 33,958 sq.ft., exceeding the sanctioned carpet area by over 4000 sqft.

The licence issued for the building plan had not been renewed after it expired on February 28, 2012. The building was sealed by the officials.

In the second case, the applicant’s premises situated on South Masi Street had actually obtained approval for construction of 3,159 sq.ft. in the basement, 2,803 sq.ft. on the ground floor and 3354 sq.ft. each on the first and the second floors. However, the inspecting team found that the builder had constructed 9,424 sq.ft. in the basement and on the ground floor.

It was intended for a textile showroom. The team also discovered that the builder had not left the mandatory open spaces around the building.

Corporation Commissioner R.Nanthagopal and Chief Town Planner visited the sites.
