Even as the first three units of Tuticorin Thermal Power Station remain idle for want of coal, the fuel, a technical snag in the 5th unit crippled it on Saturday.

Sources in the TTPS said the snag developed in the boiler section affected power generation in the unit on Saturday.

In other words, only the 4th unit of TTPS alone is now generating 210 MW power while 840 MW power generation remain affected as all the remaining four units are now dead.

“We’re working on this problem to revive power generation in the 5th unit at the earliest,” said a senior official in TTPS, who refuses to say anything about the shortage of coal.
