It’s a compilation of 27 articles written in the magazine, ‘Insurance Worker’
Communist Party of India (Marxist) State general secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Friday released the Tamil translation of former president of the All-India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA) N.M. Sundaram’s book, ‘Fragility of global finance capital - free market capitalism exposed.’
The book, a compilation of 27 articles written in the magazine, ‘Insurance Worker,’ was translated into Tamil by E.M. Joseph and titled as ‘Thagar Nilayil Nidhi Mooladhanam.’
Addressing the function organised by AIIEA Madurai Division, he said that worker unions must question who benefited from government policies and explain the same to the workers.
In the ongoing Parliamentary session, the Central government had rejected the Left parties’ requests for a debate with voting on the issue of permitting foreign direct investment in retail trade.
“To whom does the benefit of this policy goes,” he questioned.
Speaking earlier, CPI (M) central committee member U. Vasuki praised the author’s work and said that it provided immense education on the working of international finance and capital, which she said would resort to any measure in its unrelenting pursuit of profit. She also applauded Mr. Joseph for translating difficult economic concepts.
Stating that AIIEA went beyond just attending to workers’ needs, she claimed that it was the first trade union to enter Dalit villages affected in recent riots.
R. Murali, Principal, Madura College, and P. Vickraman, State secretary, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), spoke.
