Seven express trains bound for Chennai, Bengaluru and Coimbatore from southern districts suffered a detention of three hours following a snag in the overhead electric cable near Kovilpatti on Thursday night. The line was thrown open for traffic at 11 p.m.
The catenary electric cable started dangling near Kumarapuram station between Vanchi Maniyachi and Kovilpatti around 8 p.m. The Chennai-Kanniyakumari, Nellai, Pearl City, Ananthapuri, Chentoor, Nagercoil-Coimbatore and Nagercoil-Bengaluru express trains were detained at various railway stations between Tirunelveli and Kovilpatti.
Tirunelveli-bound Erode/Mayiladuthurai passenger was detained at Kovilpatti.
