Train stoppage was an “operational precaution”

March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - MADURAI:

The Southern Railway has claimed that the stoppage of Guruvayur Express “out of turn” at Naraikinaru was an “operational precaution” by alert railway officials.

A statement issued by the Madurai Division of the Southern Railway on Tuesday, with reference to the news item, ‘Train accident averted,’ clarified that there was “no possibility of any averted collision” and the stoppage of Guruvayur Express out of turn at Naraikinaru was an operational precaution by alert railway officials.

Even if the train had not stopped at Naraikinaru, there would have been no unusual occurrence as it would have come to a stop at the first stop signal (Home) of Gangaikondan station and would have been dealt safely thereafter. However, the railway administration was looking into the incident in detail for improvements in future, the statement said.
