Scores of students waited at Arumuganeri railway station eagerly on Wednesday to visit the Science Express, a 16-coach air-conditioned train showcasing exhibits on climate change, biodiversity, space science, and space missions.
Thoothukudi Sub-Collector Deepak Jacob inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Chief Educational Officer A. Anitha, District Educational Officer Senthurkani and the railway staff at the station.
Taking their turns, the enthusiastic students boarded the mobile exhibition train and got access to the exhibits.
A team of volunteers, who travelled on the train, explained the projects to the students. Science express is a flagship programme of the Department of Science and Technology aimed at creating an awareness among various sections of the society as to how climate change could be combated through mitigation and adaptation, sources said.
As many as 4,613 students from 35 schools across the district got exposure to science in the train stationed between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The train would be stationed till June 30, sources said.
