Traffic diversion in Madurai

The police have announced certain changes in the traffic movement on Kamarajar Salai and the roads around Vandiyur Mariamman Temple here as part of the ‘Thai poosam’ float festival to be held on January 16. According to a press release, from 1 p.m. vehicles would not be allowed to enter Kamarajar Salai to reach teppakulam from Kuruvikaran Salai junction. Vehicles proceeding to Ramanathapuram from Kamarajar Salai must turn left at Kuruvikaran Salai junction and take Sivaganga Road to reach Ramanathapuram.

Similarly, vehicles coming to Madurai from Ramanathapuram must turn right at Ramanathapuram-Ring Road junction and take Sivaganga Road to reach the city. Further, the visitors are instructed to park four-wheelers at the parking lot on the southern bank of Vaigai. Two-wheelers can be parked in Thiagarajar Colony and New Pankajam Colony.

Vehicular movement will be prohibited on PTR bridge from 1 p.m. Those coming from Viraganoor to witness the festival should park their vehicles in Airavathanallur area.

Parking is not allowed in areas around Teppakulam and Kamarajar Salai, the release added.
