The Madurai City Police have announced traffic diversions for heavy vehicles and lorries in view of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s visit to Madurai on Friday (August 22).
The diversions for such vehicles will come into force at 7 a.m. and remain till 10.30 p.m. to avoid any obstruction to public and other vehicular movements in the city.
A press release from the police on Wednesday said that vehicles entering the city from Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram and Tiruppuvanam would have to take the Ring Road and reach Mattuthavani bus terminus via Teppakulam, Kuruvikaran Salai and K.K. Nagar.
Similarly, vehicles bound for Ramanathapuram and Rameswaram from Mattuthavanai bus terminus will have to take Lake View Road and reach Ring Road via Anna Nagar and Teppakulam.
Vehicles leaving for Tuticorin, Aruppukottai from Mattuthavani here must take Lake View Road, Anna Nagar, Teppakulam, Kamarajar Salai and Therkuvasal, to reach Avaniapuram.
Vehicles coming from Tuticorin must use Therkuvasal, Mahal Road, Kamarajar Salai, Kuruvikaran Salai and K.K. Nagar to reach Mattuthavani.
Those coming from Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Virudhunagar must take Tirunelveli Road check-post, Palanganatham rountana, Bypass Road, Ellis Nagar, Periyar bus terminus, Simmakkal, Goripalayam and District Court to reach Mattuthavani.
Similarly, heavy vehicles heading to Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari must take Lake View Road, Anna Nagar, Teppakulam, Keezhavasal, Therkuvasal, Muthu bridge and Subramaniapuram rountana. Heavy vehicles bound for Sivaganga must take the Melur Road, the press release added.
