Traffic diversion from today for celestial wedding

Entry of cargo vehicles has been banned on the Veli, Masi, Marret and Avani Moola Streets from Monday afternoon till Thursday in view of the Chithirai festival.

A statement said that trucks, vans and other cargo vehicles would not be allowed to load and unload cargo articles. The arrangement has been made in view of the Celestial Wedding and car festival.

Similarly, no vehicles would be allowed on the Chithirai and Avani Moola Streets from 11 p.m. on Monday.

Parking

Devotees coming to the temple for Tirukalyanam (without vehicle pass) can park their cars on the four Masi Streets from 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

VIPs having yellow colour car pass should take the Yanaikkal junction, North Veli Street, Old TVS junction, West MAsi Street, May Flower junction and West Tower to reach West Aavani Moola Street to park their vehicles.

After the celestial wedding, they should exit through West Tower Street and West Masi Street. West Tower Street would be made one-way on a temporary basis.

Those cars with blue colour vehicle pass should park their vehicles on South Aavni Moola Street, and those with rose colour pass should park the vehicles on South Aavani Moola Street.

Control room

Special control room has been set up on East Chithirai Street for the benefit of the devotees. People can air their grievances and make complaints to the police over the following mobile numbers: 96559- 55100; 96559-77100; 96559-66100; 97877-77100 and 99433-30100.

Traffic arrangement

City police have made the following changes in vehicular traffic movement from Tuesday till April 29 in view of Chithirai festival.

A statement said that vehicular traffic on Alagarkoil Road between Periyar statue junction and Tamukkam ground would be banned after the palanquin of Lord Kallazhagar arrives at the Ambalakarar Mandapam near the Tallakulam Outpost.

Vehicles proceeding towards East Gate and Simmakkal from New Natham Road, Alagarkoil Road and Melur Highway have to take the Race Course Road-NAtham Road junction, Periyar statue junction, District Court, K.K. Nagar Arch, Aavin Junction, Kuruvikaran Salai, Kamarajar Salai and Munichalai junction.

Those vehicles proceeding to Tamukkam from P.T. Rajan Salai would be diverted at Lady Doak College-Ajmal Khan Road junction to go through touching the All India Radio station, Gokhale Road, IOC traffic island, Periyar Statue, K.K. Nagar Arch, Kuruvikaran Salai and Kamarajar Road.

Buses and other heavy vehicles bound for New Natham Road and Alagarkoil Road should go through Tamukkam, Gokhale Road, IOC traffic island and Race Course Road. This stretch of road is one-way and no vehicle would be allowed from the opposite direction.

Heavy vehicles proceeding towards Melur Road would be diverted at the Goripalayam junction to go through Panangal Road, Anna Bus Stand, Aavin Junction and K.K. Nagar Arch.

The city police would deploy over 3,000 police personnel, including Tamil Nadu Special Police and Armed Reserve police personnel drawn from several districts.

The chappal stand near the Towers have been shifted to Nethaji Road (near South Tower), near the Madurai Adheenam Mutt (near Amman Sannathi), near Mottai Gopuram (opposite to the North Tower) and near Naveen Bakery junction.

Devotees would be allowed to enter the temple through South and East Towers. They should exit through the Rajagopuram and North Tower.
