A total of 1,037 people between the age group of 18 and 35 years and with educational qualifications beyond Class VIII from Thirumangalam, Kallupatti, Tirupparankundram and Kallikudi Panchayat Unions registered themselves in a one-day recruitment drive organised by Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission (TNSRLM) and Pudhu Vazhvu project at Thirumangalam near here on Tuesday.
Of those who registered for the drive, conducted for recruiting employees to 22 private companies, around 323 people received job offers on the spot from different employers and 250 others were selected provisionally, according to A. Arunachalam, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam.
Collector L. Subramanian inspected the recruitment drive and handed over offer letters to around 25 candidates.
“This is the first time that we have conducted such a drive in the district. It is aimed at securing employment for the rural folks. We have planned to conduct two more recruitment drives in the month of January and February for those residing in the rest of the Panchayat Unions. Such drives help those in search of jobs as well as those in need of employees,” said R. Subash, Pudhu Vazhvu Project Manager.
Mutual benefitsV. Manimaran, president, Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) said that it was a pleasant surprise for him when the government officials sought his support for the recruitment drive. “Industrialists like me are in great need of good hands. But we find it difficult to trace them. There is nothing like the government machinery helping us in finding good employees,” he said.
S. Nithyananda Moorthy and AL. Palaniappan, president and vice-president of Kappalur Industrialists Association, said that they were elated over the recruitment drive taking place in Thirumangalam. “Units within our industrial estate get to benefit the most because the job seekers hail from nearby localities and it would be easy for them to commute to office once they get recruited,” Mr. Palaniappan said.
