The officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption conducted simultaneous search operations in as many as seven locations belonging to various persons in the city and suburbs, who were directly or indirectly linked to the top brass of the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission, on Tuesday.

Different teams of police officers comprising Deputy Superintendents of Police from Madurai, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga and inspectors entered the premises at around 7 a.m. and the search operations went on till 4 p.m.

The places included DRO Colony, Alangulam, Sasta Nagar extension at Anaiyur, Sholavandan, Narayanapuram and in two points at Usilampatti.

A private training academy, which registered students for preparing for IAS/ IPS/ IFS and Group I examinations, was raided in DRO Colony.

In more than one particular location, the police found hall tickets of candidates.

Reliable sources in the department said that the operation was a sequel to the alleged irregularities in the functioning of Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission, Chennai.

“We are examining the links and are in the process of gathering evidence available with the suspects. While some persons had professional contacts with top brass in the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission, many others were operating as middlemen or knew through relatives and friends. It came to light that many victims had lost money. Similar raids were held in Dindigul and a few other southern districts from where some documents were seized,” a source added.
