Elaborate arrangements have been made ahead of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on December 6, the police said here on Wednesday. There is no specific threat but the police would be positioned at vantage locations, said Inspector General and Commissioner of Police (Madurai City) Sanjay Mathur.
All vital installations, key places of worship and among others would be provided with police personnel. The BDDS teams are positioned at select locations to ensure that no objectionable item was carried by any miscreant. The Madurai District Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said that adequate police had been posted on duty since tonight.
Night rounds
All senior officers would be on night rounds. Vehicles would be screened at the check posts bordering Madurai and other neighbouring districts, he also added.
The police screened all bags at the railway station, integrated bus stand and lodges in the city limits. A senior police officer said that it was being done as a precautionary act. Passengers were told to be guarded when they spot any objectionable items in trains. The police were deployed in all major trains. Tracks were being monitored, he added.
