The death of three persons due to fever in the last few days at a small hamlet in T. Kallupatti block in the district has come as a shocker for health officials. Public health authorities have confirmed that Periya Chittuloti, a hamlet that comes under M. Subbulapuram Primary Health Centre area, is under grip of fever and three persons, including an old woman, died so far. The third death was on Wednesday.

The first fever related death was reported on September 11 when an elderly woman died of high fever. Health Department officials said that another death took place on September 19 as an old man had died due to fever and acute abdominal pain.

On Wednesday, the third death was reported when a man died due to fever the reasons for which are yet to be ascertained. This hamlet continued to be under the grip of unknown fever as five persons have been admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital here.

A few children showed fever symptoms and they are being monitored by health officials.

“We don't want to come to specific reasons for deaths at this stage since the three patients who died so far were very aged persons. All preventive measures are being taken in that hamlet because of running fever cases being reported from there. The situation is under control,” a senior health official in the district has said.

Persons having fever in Peria Chittuloti hamlet will be referred to the GRH immediately. Health officials had given instructions for carrying out mosquito control and sanitation measures besides chlorination of drinking water in that locality.
