Three more cases against quarry operators

The police on Saturday registered three cases in the multi-crore granite scam in the district.

The Keezhavalavu police registered all the three cases based on the complaint of Village Administrative Officer Ravichandra Prabhu.

In the first case, the police booked P.R. Palanichamy of PRP Granites and Subbureddi of Pallava Granite and 15 others for illegal quarrying of granite from government poromboke land, supply channels and irrigation tank in Keezhavalavu to the extent of 1,592 cubic metres and causing a loss of Rs. 6.37 crore to the State.

The second case was against Muljith Thakkar and nine others, who were accused of causing a loss of Rs. 47.07 crore to the State government by quarrying illegally to the extent of 422.65 cubic metres since 1994. The third case was against 11 persons, including Palanichamy, for causing loss to the tune of Rs. 273.80 crore. The police have charged the accused on charges of theft, rioting and under the provisions of Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of damage and loss) Act, Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and Explosives Substances Act.
