The Karuppayoorani police have arrested three persons, including a woman, for stealing Rs.12,000 from the hundi installed at Pandi Muneeswarar Temple on Ring Road. Acting on specific input, the police kept a vigil on the temple premises on Wednesday night and caught the three persons. Two others managed to escape. The police said the thieves had opened the temple gate and inserted a stick dipped in glue to pull out currency notes and coins from the hundi. The police seized from them a bag containing several brass bells donated by devotees to the temple.

The temple keys are in the possession of temple trustee Sivaji. “I open the temple at around 5.30 a.m. and lock it at around 8.30 p.m. every day,” Mr.Sivaji said. The police are investigating as to how the accused got the temple keys.
