Madurai district police have registered three fresh cases against P.R.P. Granites, and its share-holders, including P.R. Palanichamy, for illegal quarrying of granites and causing loss to the State government.

During the survey of the granite quarries, the Revenue Department officials had found that 19.738 cubic metres of granite had been quarried from their patta land without necessary permission for quarrying in Keezhaiyur near Melur. The company and the share-holders have been accused of violating the licence conditions and intentionally caused loss to the State government.

The Keezhavalvu police on Friday have a case under various Sections of Indian Penal Code, provisions of Tamil Nadu Public Properties (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act, Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act and Explosives Substance Act, Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said in a statement.

Based on a complaint lodged by the Keezhaiyur Village Administrative Officer Akbar Sait, Mr. Palanichamy and others were charged of having encroached upon the adjacent government poromboke land. They were also accused of having damaged channels and caused a loss of around Rs. 30 crore to the government.
