Three persons, including a child and a pregnant women, died in Madurai district on Saturday in suspected cases of fever.

S. Savithri (27), a pregnant women getting treated at Primary Health Centre in Thumbaipatti, was reportedly referred to Government Rajaji Hospital with fever, where doctors found on Friday night that the baby had died in the womb. Subsequently, Savithri also died.

Desisting from confirming whether the death was due to dengue, sources at GRH said that the death was possibly due to brain fever.

Similarly, J. Kabilan (9) from Duraisamypuram Pudur and S. Gayathri (19) from Bodinaickenpatti, who were respectively getting treated at a private hospital in Usilampatti and the government hospital in Vadipatti for fever, died while being referred to GRH.

Health and Family Welfare department officials were, however, yet to confirm whether the deaths were due to dengue.
