The Bharatiya Janata Party State secretary R. Srinivasan has received a threat letter on Thursday.

Following a complaint from Madurai BJP district unit president Sasiraman, the city police have registered a case.

The complaint said that a letter posted to the residential address of Mr. Srinivasan had a printed pamphlet inside it, which was recently circulated to the public by members of Tamil Nadu Towheeth Jamaath condemning the Centre for the ban on beef and among others.

Mr. Srinivasan represented the BJP as a candidate in the Thiruparankundram by-election.

Preliminary inquiries suggested that the envelope which had “Vaazhga Valamudan” printed in Tamil was found to be rewritten as “Vaazhga Vizhipudan”. Since it appeared to be a threat, the Koodal Pudur police have registered a case under two IPC Sections 153 A (promoting enmity on grounds of religion) and 505 (2) (public statement with an intent to make mischief) respectively.

A team of police officers also visited the residential area of Mr. Srinivasan, they added.
