Collectors of eight districts have appealed to followers of U. Muthuramalinga Thevar not to undertake ‘padayatra’ to Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram district during his birth anniversary celebration on October 30.
In a statement issued on behalf of Collectors of Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Pudukottai, Theni and Madurai, the Ramanathapuram Collector, K. Nanthakumar, said that those who visit Pasumpon should follow certain guidelines in the larger interest of the people. They should take the stipulated routes from their respective districts to reach and leave their destination. The followers were advised not to come in open vehicles or in vehicles fitted with public address systems.
They were prohibited from carrying any weapons or tools that had the potential to cause injuries. All vehicles would be subject to checks at check posts on important roads. Armed police personnel would be posted on important routes and in residential areas.
Political parties and community organisations, which wish to pay homage at Muthuramalinga Thevar memorial in Pasumpon between October 28 and 30, have to submit a formal application to the Ramanathapuram Collector’s office.
The last date for submission of applications is October 22. Time slots will be allotted for homage to different outfits on all the three days.
