Three persons, admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital with burns in petrol bomb attack on their vehicle, died in Madurai on Sunday.

On October 30, when a group of youth from Puliankulam village was returning to Madurai after paying homage at the Pasumpon village on the occasion of Thevar Jayanthi, some unidentified persons hurled petrol bombs on their vehicle while it was approaching near Ring Road amid police escort.

The miscreants blocked a Tata Sumo on the convoy and hurled stones and petrol bombs. The vehicle was caught fire and 19 occupants suffered burns. The injured were rushed to the GRH. Doctors said many among them had suffered 60 to 100 per cent burns.

On Sunday, Jayapandi (17), Sundarapandi (20) and Vetrivel (18) died. On hearing the news, a large number of cadre from Puliankulam and surrounding pockets gathered at the hospital. The police pickets were deployed.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, in a press release issued in Chennai, expressed her condolences. On behalf of the government, a relief of Rs. 5 lakh each was announced for the family members of the deceased.
