The report on the plight of two poor, brilliant Muslim students, published in these columns on Wednesday, has moved the readers of The Hindu into immediate action. Even readers from the United Kingdom, Germany and Saudi Arabia expressed their willingness to provide financial assistance to the students after reading the news story online.
Prabhakar Gondhalekar from the UK, Rishi Pillai from Germany and Musthafa Naeem from Saudi Arabia were some of the overseas readers who offered to sponsor the students’ education. Advocate N.Mohideen Basha, practising at the Madras High Court Bench here, also promised to mobilise funds through donations from other lawyers.
S.A.Abdul Rahman, Additional Divisional Railway Manager in Tiruchi, came forward to assist the students through an organisation based in Chennai. A large number of readers had also posted comments on The Hindu’ s website seeking contact details of the two students.
