The Hindu cooking contest brings out homemakers’ culinary skills

The Hindu Group organised a grand cooking contest at IGS Convention Centre on Ambasamudram Main Road at Palaymkottai on Saturday where over 150 participants showcased their culinary skills.

The participants, who had cooked their favourite vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes that represent the flavours of Tamil Nadu at home, had brought them to the venue. The dishes were either starters, main course, snack or dessert.

Those who cooked the dishes using Naga Food Products & Fortune sunflower oil and brought the covers to the venue got extra points.

A panel of judges headed by renowned chef Damu selected the five best cooks – S. Bagampriyal of Thoothukudi, Kathija Jafar of Pettai in Tirunelveli, S. Gomathi of Thatchanallur, S. Prema of Shanthi Nagar in Palayamkottai and S. Aruna of Valliyoor in Tirunelveli.

The winners will participate in the grand finale in Chennai for the title master chef of Tamil Nadu. The district-level winners stand a chance to win lots of prizes and the grand finale winners can take home gifts worth ₹ 10 lakh.

Hariharan of Madhuram Catering, Hazeena Seyad, author of ‘Vathakka, Varukka, Vega Vaikka’ and ‘Ravuthar Recipes’, doctor S. Meena of Lakshmi Hospital, Advocate M.A.G. Mathivadhanapandiyan, Venkatesh from Fortune Oil, Karuppasamy from Naga and Sridhar from Premier Cookware participated in the event.
