A rousing welcome was accorded to Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy temple elephant Kasturi upon return from the rejuvenation camp at Thekkampatti here on Wednesday.

Priests performed special pujas to her on arrival. The temple officials garlanded the elephant and fed her sumptuously.

After checking the elephant, veterinary doctors said that the elephant had shed 90 kg after the rigorous training and healthy diet. The team that accompanied the elephant to the camp said that Kasturi had performed exceedingly well and brought laurels to the temple and to the town.

She brought shields and merit certificates. She was adjudged the most beautiful elephant with good health and massive power among others in the camp this year. Moreover, she won the first prize and a shield in the tug-of-war competition this year also. Kasturi has been the winner of tug-of-war competition in the four consecutive years.

It assisted all other elephants to board the lorry after completion of the training programme at Thekkampatti. At last, she boarded the lorry on her own and came to Palani, the team added.

She had undergone 48-day training at the rejuvenation camp held at Thekkampatti, said HR&CE officials. Her total weight was 4,750 kg before going to the camp.
