After the heavy downpour in the city on Monday evening, the Corporation authorities swung into action on Tuesday.

A spokesman said that different teams were despatched to the places, where water-logging complaints were received.

Vehicular movement was diverted on the Tamil Sangam Road – Workshop Road stretch as the sub-way was filled with rainwater.

An autorickshaw had got caught in the water, but luckily there were no passengers.

Similarly, in the wholesale vegetable market near Maatuthavani bus stand, the roof had fallen due to heavy wind accompanied by rains.

The teams removed the damaged portion of the roof and ensured that there was no danger to the public visiting the market.

A supervisor said that poor quality of roof material had resulted in the damage as the market was opened only at the fag end of the DMK regime.

Only on Tuesday noon, the water was pumped out in many low-lying areas, which were inundated in the city on Monday night, the spokesman said, and added that the works may continue on Wednesday also in a couple of places.

The PWD officials had said that the city recorded 44 mm of rainfall.
