In view of the new Class X syllabus that came in to effect from this academic year through ‘Samacheer Kalvi' system that brought in uniform pattern across all schools, a special training drive for teachers has begun in Madurai district.
Keeping the Tenth Class Board examinations in mind, the Department of School Education officials here have been conducting special training for school teachers handling the five subjects of Class X in schools of Madurai, Melur and Usilampatti educational districts.
For better results
“The training session started on December 15 with one day allotted for each subject. Teachers of government, aided, Corporation, Kallar and Adi Dravidar schools will get better clarity so that they can fine-tune their students in the next three months for getting good results in Board examinations,” S. Nagaraja Murugan, Chief Educational Officer, said on Friday.
While the training for Tenth Class Tamil teachers was given on Thursday, it was the turn of English teachers on Friday. The training sessions were conducted by specially-drawn resource persons at three places covering three educational districts. Maths teachers will undergo one-day training on December 19 while science teachers will have similar session on December 20. Training for Social Studies teachers is on December 21.
“We have three objectives for this special orientation to school teachers. They (teachers) will be able to clarify on the syllabus content in their respective subjects. Difficulty of students can be easily handled with clarity. When the teachers are clear with goals, the bright students can score more marks or secure ranks while the ‘weak students and slow-learners' can manage to pass Class X with exam-oriented preparation,” he said.
The half-yearly examinations for students of Tenth Class are now going on and there will be a thorough review of results later.
Schools upgraded
Meanwhile, 20 middle schools in the district have been upgraded into high schools a few days ago. Official communication had been sent to the CEO's office asking it to go ahead with admitting students for Ninth and Tenth classes in these schools.
