Students of Sethupathy Government Arts College here on Tuesday staged a sit-in demanding the government fill up lecturer vacancies.

As many as 800 students, including girls, boycotted the classes and sat on the campus to register their protest.

They said that most of the periods went without lecturers due to 17 vacancies of lecturers.

Studies have been affected.

They claimed that though the issue had been brought to the notice of the college authorities several times, the vacancies remained.

The students warned that they would resort to a strike if the government failed to meet their demand.
