Supporting the bull taming sport of “Jallikattu”, BJP MP Tarun Vijay has said the sport is part of Tamil culture and should not be banned.
Talking to reporters here, the Rajya Sabha member said the rural people, especially farmers needed some entertainment and they were organising this sport from time immemorial.
Tarun, who was here as part of his “Tirukural Tirupayana” (Yatra), which he had undertaken to propagate the famous Tamil couplets, said he had also taken up the issue of making the Tamil as the official language of the High Court with the President.
It was essential that the people should address the High Court in the native language and it was unfortunate that such a situation did not exist.
Tamil Poet Tiruvalluvar had taught about equality 2,000 years ago. He was the first to fight against caste inequality and said all men are equal, he said.
He said Tirukural was already being taught in Punjab and Karnataka and he would take steps to propagate it other states.
The MP offered worship at Sri Meenakshi temple here.
