Tankers to bring water to the Vaigai

April 09, 2010 06:02 pm | Updated 06:02 pm IST - MADURAI:

This summer, Corporation tanker lorries will supply water to the main source — the Vaigai. Taking into consideration the dwindling water level in the Vaigai dam and absence of flow in the riverbed, the civic body has made arrangements to fill the spot where Lord Kallazhagar is to enter the river on Chithra Pournami day with tanker water.

According to a corporation press release, 400 temporary workers will be deployed to clear garbage in the city during the festival season. Water tanks will be placed at 80 points and special medical camps conducted at several places.

Mobile toilets will also be stationed for the convenience of people who will congregate in large numbers during the Chithirai festival. Health inspectors have been instructed to keep a vigil on the quality of food supplied by restaurants and tea stalls.
